Inmates at Joseph Harp Correctional Center Craft Rocking Motorcycle for Youth Services of Tulsa’s 2nd Chance Prom

Inmates at Joseph Harp Correctional Center (JHCC) have built a handcrafted rocking motorcycle to be auctioned off at Youth Services of Tulsa’s 2nd Chance Prom. This one-of-a-kind piece is more than just a beautifully designed work of art—it’s a testament to the power of second chances.

The project was spearheaded by members of the Oklahoma Lifers Association (OLA), a group of approximately 40 incarcerated individuals who, despite facing life sentences, choose to give back to their home communities. OLA members repurpose leftover lumber to create toy rocking motorcycles for regional charities, including Toby Keith’s OK Kids Korral, Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, Autism Oklahoma, and Scottish Rite for Children in Dallas.

The rocking motorcycle will be the only item auctioned at 2nd Chance Prom. Muriel, an inmate and member of the LGBTQ+ group at JHCC, worked closely with YST to design the custom piece. Over the past 18 months, Muriel and YST collaborated through letters and phone calls to shape the vision for the bike. Their dedication and craftsmanship, along with the work of the JHCC woodshop team, have resulted in this absolute gem:

YST’s 2nd Chance Prom is our signature annual fundraiser supporting the organization’s mission to help youth in crisis. This event offers attendees a fun, nostalgic prom experience while raising funds for critical services, including housing, counseling, and job readiness programs for young people in need.
